Welcome to another Techvid! Today, you'll learn how to manage and reset your configured multi-factor authentication methods in Sophos Central. Let's dive in! In this Techvid, I'll show you the steps to manage your MFA, including how to add, edit, and remove them. Then, I'll demonstrate how to reset an MFA. Before starting, ensure you have Super Admin access in order to reset user MFA settings. Let's get started! In Sophos Central, navigate to your user profile and click My Info, Manage MFA. Authenticate your account to proceed. Then, a list appears with currently registered MFA methods and when they were last used. You can add, edit, and remove those methods here. Note, a maximum of 10 of the same type of authentication methods can be set up. For more information on setting up passkeys, check the documentation linked in the description. To add an MFA method, click the plus icon and follow the prompts to set up either a passkey or authenticator app. To rename an MFA method, click the ellipsis to the right of the method and click Rename. Then, enter a new name and click the checkmark. If you haven't already specified a name, a default name based on the method type is used instead. To remove an MFA method, click the ellipsis icon again and click Delete. Note, you can't delete all your MFA methods and at least two must be registered. Once finished, click Continue to return to the dashboard. Next, I'll show you the steps to reset a user's MFA settings. In Sophos Central, go to My Environment Users and Groups. Under the Users tab, find the name of the user and click it. Then, click Reset MFA and click Reset. A success banner will appear if the reset was successful. The next time the user logs in, an automated email verification request is sent from Sophos Central containing a security code. Enter the security code Enter the security code and register a new MFA method. Note, contact Sophos support if you're ever locked out of your account. And that's how you manage and reset MFA methods in Sophos Central. I hope you found this useful. TL;DR

  • Super Admin access is required to reset MFA settings for other users in Sophos Central — standard admins can only manage their own methods.
  • Administrators can add, rename, or delete MFA methods (passkeys or authenticator apps) from the My Info section of their user profile.
  • A minimum of two MFA methods must remain registered at all times; the platform enforces a maximum of ten methods per type.

Summary

This short tutorial walks Sophos Central administrators through the complete lifecycle of multi-factor authentication (MFA) management — from adding and renaming authentication methods to removing them and resetting a user's MFA configuration entirely. The video begins by establishing a key prerequisite: Super Admin access is required to perform MFA resets on behalf of other users. Administrators can manage their own MFA methods by navigating to their user profile, selecting My Info, and then Manage MFA, where a list of all currently registered methods and their last-used timestamps is displayed. Up to ten methods of the same type can be registered simultaneously, and at least two must remain active at all times — deletion of all methods is not permitted. Supported method types include passkeys and authenticator apps. For resetting another user's MFA — useful when a user is locked out or has lost access to their authenticator — admins navigate to My Environment, then Users and Groups, locate the affected user, and trigger a reset. Upon next login, the user receives an automated email from Sophos Central containing a security code, which they use to re-enroll a new MFA method. Administrators who are themselves locked out are directed to contact Sophos support directly.

FAQ

What access level is needed to reset another user's MFA in Sophos Central?

Super Admin access is required. Standard administrators can manage their own MFA methods but cannot reset MFA settings for other users.

What happens after an admin resets a user's MFA?

The next time the user logs in, Sophos Central automatically sends an email containing a security code. The user enters that code and is then prompted to register a new MFA method.
