I'm Garima Arora, Product Manager for Platform Team. Joining me today are Sagar and Vashak. They're going to talk about the topic ConnectWise Cloud Backup. We'll quickly cover the agenda and then I'll hand over to Sagar. So Sagar, would you mind moving to the next screen? So we'll cover about what Product Office Hours is and why are we here and everything. We'll quickly move to the next slide. So what do we do here? We provide live demos and which are followed by focused questions and answers. We look at new features, standard use cases and most importantly, best practices. Our goal is that we want you to help and master the platform and increase our adoption. So it's like twofold. We are here for every Wednesday 11 to 11.30 a.m. EST. Mark your calendars. Quick housekeeping on the next slide. So we send you all the recordings of these sessions within like 48 hours. And these are also posted on YouTube for you to go back and replay. You can always check for our rolling weekly schedule on university calendars. And if you're facing any technical issues, let us know in the Q&A section. The Q&A section is on the top right, third icon with a question mark. That's where you post all the questions and we will answer those to you. With that, I'll hand over to Sagar and Vishak. Thank you. Thanks, Karima. Good day, everyone. So I'm Sagar Kamat, Director of Product Management at ConnectWise handling the BCDR product portfolio. As Karima mentioned, we will be talking about ConnectWise Cloud Backup. So it's a solution that backs up your Microsoft 365 and Entra ID data. So essentially your Exchange Online, SharePoint, Drive for Business, Microsoft Teams, Teams and Groups, and Planner. Now it's comprehensive backup and recovery solution ConnectWise offers. And we now have enabled that into the ConnectWise platform and partners can provision our backup product and explore the features in the ConnectWise platform and then through a 38-trial process. And if you guys are happy with the trial, you can then convert that instance into a production instance. Now, as part of the self-provisioning of a cloud backup, any user who has primary super admin or super admin credentials can spin up these trials from the ConnectWise platform. In the ConnectWise, in the data production menu under the ConnectWise portal, you will see backup orders as an option using which you can spin up these trials. Now, these trials have full capabilities in terms of features available to you. There's no restriction in terms of the users. Users, you can back up some trial products, offer you a 25-user trial, limited trial, but this is essentially you can back the whole Microsoft 365 tenant. You can create cloud backup orders into the ConnectWise platform and monitor them in the in the backup dashboard, which is a unified view of all backup products into the ConnectWise platform. We'll briefly touch base on some of the pods that are available in the backup dashboard as well. And then at any given point of time, if you're happy with the trial process, you can switch that cloud backup instance into a production paid order. So that's the provisioning and the cloud backup order creation process for you. In terms of upcoming releases, we are making some changes in terms of a process to be able to modify retention of any backup order from the Azure platform itself. And we will also be, the current process has some integration workflow that we have a requirement, but that we will soon be going to address and it will be a seamless integration. So all you have to do is log in into the ConnectWise platform and create the cloud backup orders for your clients and protect Microsoft 365 data. Now in terms of cloud backup, so we do backup from Microsoft 365 tenant to Azure. So you can have your own Azure account using which you can perform backups. We have close to 18 plus data centers across globe, which can protect your data in the Microsoft ecosystem itself. And we perform automated six backups a day and offer granular recovery options in terms of recovering a point in time, the entire tenant point in time, files and folders, mailboxes, or any items that are files and folders that are backed up in SharePoint or OneDrive. So with that, I'll quickly go through the recording. So here, so as you log in into the ConnectWise platform here under data protection, you will see the backup orders option. In the backup orders, you will see a page that says, or that has option to start a free trial of 30 days, or you can place a paid order. If you have utilized cloud backup in the past, you can directly go ahead and place active subscriptions. So, and as I said, only primary super admins and super admin users will be allowed to create these cloud backup orders. Now, as soon as you click start a free trial, we in the background will provision the product for you. We will sync the users from ConnectWise home to the cloud backup with all the permissions related to cloud backup. And then there is, as I said, there is an additional step for us to set up the integration. So as soon as you log in into the cloud backup console, you will copy the user ID and partner subscription key, and then save the settings. So once the connection is established, you can now go ahead and create cloud backup orders from here. Now, all you have to do is select the ASIO company, select the ASIO site for which you want to create an order, and then provide the Microsoft fallback domain. Here, I'm using a test domain that I have, and email ID, right? So this is where all your notifications related to backups will be sent in terms of any backup failures. You will see those on this email address. Now, so as you can see, it's just a pre-processed, provisioned product you integrate, and then you create the cloud backup orders. Now, once you create these orders, you can connect to the cloud backup portal from the ASIO platform itself. And then you can select the resources that you want to backup, select the data center, and then select the retention settings, and then click on this order. So that's how you can quickly create orders for cloud backup. Now, this is the order creation part. Now, let me quickly give you an overview of how the cloud backup orders look like in the ASIO portal here, or the ConnectWise platform. As you can see, we have multiple orders here. You can either cancel those orders, or you can create new orders. I have already shown you how we can create those orders. I'll just create one more to demonstrate the capability here. And I'll provide an email address. Then click save and connect. So it's as simple as that. And then once the order is created, you can log in into the cloud backup portal from the ASIO platform itself, and configure the connector. So whenever the order is created, it is in the awaiting authorization state, meaning the order is created, but you will have to kind of authenticate into the Microsoft Cloud tenant, configure the backups, and then set the retention, select the data center, and you can then perform six backups a day on that particular tenant. So as you can see, I have created this new order, which is currently in awaiting authorization state. I will quickly go ahead and do a self-authorization of the cloud backup order. I have the global admin credentials. I copy the password for this. It will request you to give the necessary permissions to perform the backup. And that's it. So it will start discovering the users and groups and all the resources in the Microsoft 365 tenant. And then it will give you an option to select the data center. You can set the retention. You can set the retention at the service level. Like you can set the retention on Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, and even Microsoft Enter ID. So I think while this process is happening, I can quickly go back to the cloud backup order. I can quickly go back to the ASIO portal here or the ConnectWise portal. We just created this particular site. It is in the awaiting authorization state. Now I can select the resources that I want to perform backup of. I enable protection. And then I select, go to the next step here, select the Microsoft Teams. Select protect newly discovered resources. So as soon as a new resource gets added into the Microsoft 365 tenant, you can include that into the backup. Retention by default is set for one year, but you can customize that according to your compliance requirements or client requirements. You can also set indefinite retention. So for now, I'll select one year retention. I'll select a data center here, select US, and then that's it. So you select the data center, you select the plan, and then that completes the configuration. So this is how you can very quickly place an order and then onboard your clients for SAS data protection. Now on the ConnectWise platform, I will quickly show you the monitoring of these cloud backup orders. So let me come to the backup dashboard here. So as I mentioned earlier, so this is a unified view of all your backup solutions, including Axiom Cloud Backup. You have Acronis being supported on this dashboard. We have now the cloud backup ports also listed in here. So you have different ports where you can monitor the backup of the cloud backup orders. The first port gives you a protection versus unprotected view with respect to all the resources. Like for example, Exchange, we have currently four users backed up as part of Exchange. You have the EnterID objects also getting backed up. So I'll just click on the EnterID objects that are protected. We have the user protection view, which offers you visibility into the protected and unprotected users. And in terms of resources, like for example, I have this particular user, right? So we have Exchange and Teams backed up for him. Whereas for this particular user, we just have Teams backed up. So you can have that level of granularity of view on the ConnectWise platform here. You can also view the users that are currently unprotected, which need to be included into the backups. And then you have the fast protected data view, which gives you the size of the backup that are happening over a period of time. So like for example, now you have around seven gigs of Exchange data being backed up to the cloud for Exchange. And then similarly, you have OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams and Groups being backed up. You can also review all the orders that have been created in the backup dashboard itself. You can create new orders from here. And then you can review the retention, right? So this retention is at a service level. So you can review what retention you have for SharePoint, EnterID, and so on and so forth. We are coming up with a release where you will be able to kind of modify the retention from the ConnectWise platform itself so that you have a unified view of your backup into the platform. I think that's all I had for the presentation. Probably I can quickly go through one more recording here. So give me a second. Yeah, so we have, as I said, when the orders are created in trial, right, so you will see the trial option enabled and you'll see that status being reflected in the ribbon there. At any given point of time, you can convert a particular instance into a paid order. So what this does is if you have, say, 10 orders in trial, it will convert all of those trials into the production. So production subscription. So this is a process that cannot be undone. But once you are happy with the trial of the Cloud Backup, you can go here and convert those trials into production. So I think that's all I had. Anything that you wanted to cover, Vishak? Anything else? No, I think, yeah, we've covered the one on the backup dashboard as well, right? So I think, yeah, that should be. Yeah, that also has retention information and it will continuously keep getting updated as changes happen in the Cloud Backup. And yeah, one good thing is that I think because of ConnectWise SSO, like the transfer between the consoles is seamless. Yeah. So I see a few questions. I'll try to kind of answer them. So does Cloud Backup capture one-on-one Teams chat, like if it does? Yes, so we do perform MS Teams chat backup as well. How does it different from Keepit? How does it compare cost-wise? So when you kind of spin up the Cloud Backup instance from the ASIO platform, it's the month-to-month price that you get, but you can always talk to the account manager and get yourself contracted so that you get the best price for the Cloud Backup. Now, how it is different from Keepit? So Keepit offers two backups a day. That's the maximum. We just have a few data centers across the globe. I think one in the US, a couple of them in India, one in Canada, and one in Australia. But this solution has around 18-plus data centers across the globe with extensive backup for Microsoft 365. Yeah, so I think I covered the difference part. I see that that was answered. One more thing. I think if you're ASIO, if you're already on ASIO and you self-provision this, I think you also get the cloud migration piece as well, right? I think that's correct. That is correct. Yeah, very good point. So if you are signing up from ASIO and if you are signing up on a ConnectWise paper, so you will get to use the cloud migration product, which essentially helps you to migrate your data from on-prem, hosted exchange, or it could be through Google Workspace and other solutions into Microsoft 365. So that product is added free of charge with cloud backup. Yeah, and generally, the solution is fully engineered in M365 cloud. So yeah, it's all end-to-end Microsoft Azure data centers. And yeah, it's fully integrated with M365. Cool. I think that's all we wanted to cover. If there are any more questions, we'll be happy to take those. Yeah, I think there is one saying, does cloud backup require an enterprise application in Ontra to capture one-on-one team chats? Yeah, I think we will have to kind of have the enterprise app registration. I'll confirm that back to you, Mark. But I think the Microsoft Entra ID registration is required for the team's chat as well, I guess. But I'll get back to you on this. Yeah, but it does capture the one-on-one team chats as well, right? Yes. Yeah. We still have some time left. Audience, I'm encouraging you to please put in more questions. Yeah, I think that's all we wanted to cover. I think that's all we wanted to cover today. So thank you so much for joining us. And we'll see you in the next session. So that we can answer those. Okay. Meanwhile, audience is looking at that. Sagar, do you think you want to cover any best practices that the audience can take away with like how to use cloud backup or something on those lines, which we can cover in like two, three minutes? Yeah, I think the best practice, as I initially pointed out, right, so currently the provisioning of the product itself is handled by the primary super admin or super admin. So if there are other role users like technician or a manager role users, they will be able to view the backup orders page, but they will not be able to provision cloud backup. Now, once the product is provisioned, you can go into the ConnectWise home setting and then give the technician or the manager the required role. Like for example, currently, when I click on the manager role and I get into the data protection area, you will see the cloud backup related roles here. So this entitles the user to cancel the backup order, connect to a cloud backup order, create new orders or edit the orders or new orders on the backup orders page there. Now, if for some reason, those users don't have the necessary permissions, you can always go ahead and make those changes so that the users can then go ahead and create orders in the ConnectWise platform. Yeah, but the product provisioning itself is done via the primary super admin and the super admin role. We are enhancing that functionality in the upcoming releases where even the technician and the manager roles can submit the request for provisioning cloud backup, but that will essentially send a notification to the primary super admin and the super admin to approve those requests. So once it is approved, it's the normal flow on how you create the new cloud backup order. Yeah, and in terms of when you create the first order, the first step there is to set up the integration first, which will be removed as well as a requirement in the subsequent releases. Okay. Okay. With that, Sagar, you could move to the slides so that we can talk about some of the things that we have there. Okay. For the audience, you can always reach out to Sagar or Vishak directly as well if you have any feedbacks or you need some more information. But on the screens now, you are seeing a QR code to our YouTube, ConnectWise YouTube channel. And this is a great place to catch up with the replays or deep dive into other content. I'll pause it for like five seconds so that you can scan that and subscribe to it. We also have like a product office hours playlist on the YouTube channel. So you can get to know every Wednesday what sessions are there and we upload each and every session there. It's uploaded with questions and answers as well. So you get like more enriched content there. Yeah. Okay. Moving on to the next. So this was our April schedule. So we covered like today, BCTR, which is cloud backup. Now, upcoming next is the Screen Connect. It's about simplified and seamless. So it's like Screen Connect with security together. And on the next slide, you will see the scanner, the QR code for registering to the Screen Connect session, which is on 29th April. Again, on next Wednesday, 11 a.m. EST. Also, if you're looking for like, you know, upcoming scheduled topics for May and like other sessions, you can always reach out on the university calendars. And also we send like in-app notifications directly within the platform. So you can like just grab the links from there and register. Okay. With that, there's another slide which we have today. That's for the, from our education team. We are holding a, Sagar, do you have the next slide on? Yeah. I think I have the troubleshooting slide. Oh, okay. Never mind. I'll quickly share my screen if I'm able to. Sure. Okay. Yeah. So we are also holding the university day on 20th, on 2nd of June to 5th of June. And it's in our Tampa office. You can scan this QR code again for like more information and registering her for the university day program, which is going to held on 2nd of June to 5th of June. Okay. Yeah. With that, I think we are good to go. See you on the next Wednesday and have a nice day. Thank you everyone. Thank you everyone.

Self-Service Trial Provisioning and Platform Integration

This Product Office Hours session demonstrates ConnectWise's new self-provisioning capability for Cloud Backup, enabling MSPs to spin up 30-day trials directly from the ConnectWise platform without manual intervention. Primary super admins and super admins can create backup orders for Microsoft 365 and Entra ID protection through the Data Protection menu, with full feature access and unlimited user counts during the trial period. The integration requires a one-time setup step where users copy credentials from the Cloud Backup console into the platform, though this requirement will be removed in upcoming releases. Once configured, partners can create orders by selecting ASIO companies and sites, providing Microsoft fallback domains, and configuring notification email addresses for backup status alerts.

Backup Configuration and Monitoring Capabilities

The solution performs six automated backups daily across Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive for Business, Microsoft Teams, Groups, Planner, and Entra ID objects, storing data in 18+ Azure data centers globally. Partners can configure service-level retention policies (default one year, customizable to indefinite), select geographic data center locations, and enable automatic protection for newly discovered resources. The unified Backup Dashboard in the ConnectWise platform provides visibility into protected versus unprotected users, resource-level protection status (showing which services are backed up per user), and total protected data size across all services. The dashboard supports monitoring multiple backup solutions including Acronis and Axiom alongside Cloud Backup, with upcoming enhancements enabling retention modification directly from the platform.

Trial-to-Production Conversion and Role Management

Partners can convert trial instances to paid month-to-month subscriptions with a single click, though this action converts all trial orders simultaneously and cannot be undone. The solution includes cloud migration capabilities at no additional charge for ASIO customers, supporting migrations from on-premises Exchange, hosted Exchange, Google Workspace, and other sources into Microsoft 365. Role-based access controls allow primary super admins to delegate backup order management to technicians and managers through ConnectWise Home settings, with upcoming releases enabling these roles to submit provisioning requests that require super admin approval. The session emphasized the seamless SSO integration between the ConnectWise platform and Cloud Backup console, eliminating authentication friction during order management.

FAQ

Does ConnectWise Cloud Backup capture one-on-one Teams chats?

Yes, the solution performs Microsoft Teams chat backup including one-on-one conversations. Enterprise application registration in Entra ID may be required for Teams chat backup, though this was flagged for confirmation during the session.

Can I convert just one trial order to production, or does it convert all trials at once?

The trial-to-production conversion is an all-or-nothing action that converts all trial orders simultaneously. This process cannot be undone, so partners should ensure they're ready to convert all trials before initiating the conversion.

What roles can provision Cloud Backup trials from the ConnectWise platform?

Currently, only primary super admins and super admins can provision Cloud Backup. Technicians and managers can view the backup orders page but cannot provision the product. Upcoming releases will allow these roles to submit provisioning requests that require super admin approval.
