In this session, I will briefly introduce the important points of the latest software version 13 from the point of view of SE. My name is Fosume Gido from the Beam Software Japan Systems Engineering Headquarters. Thank you for participating in this session. In version 13, it is not just a functional upgrade for the Beam Data Platform. It is a major evolution to make data resilience safer, faster, and simpler. In this session, I would like to introduce the important points of this upgrade. Now, I will introduce the agenda of this session. First of all, I would like to re-confirm the idea of Beam's data resilience. On top of that, I will introduce the important points of version 13 and the latest evolution, the Beam Software Appliance. Lastly, I would like to explain about future technical sessions. Beam defines data resilience in five pillars. Backup, recovery, portability, security, intelligence. What is important is not to save, but to maintain a state where it can be safely, quickly, and reliably distributed. In version 13, all five points are strengthened. The focus of Beam Backup and Replication version 13 is clear. Reducing operation load, strengthening security, eliminating vendor lock-in. And the important point is that Beam version 13 is not just a copy product. It is a unified platform that can be managed in one interface by integrating data protection, security, and recovery into a single operating mode. Now, let's take a look at the main highlights introduced in Beam Data Platform version 13. In this release, three priorities are centered. They are speed, security, and simplicity. Hardening software appliance, Azure Instant Recovery, new web UI, enhanced RBAC, AI-based threat detection. Both integration and operation have become easier and safer. One of the most important evolutions in version 13 is the integration of this Beam Software Appliance. This is the first time that a Beam server can be deployed as a Linux-based hardening platform. This eliminates the need for Windows. There are three main advantages. First, the reduction of complexity. There is no need for Windows license and no need for individual patch management for each OS. It is possible to deploy from pre-configured ISO or OBA in a fast and consistent manner. Second, improved security. It is hardening from the design stage and has an automatic update function. Third, scalability. There is no lock-in for specific hardware. It can be easily deployed on the platform selected by the customer. Beam Software Appliance can introduce a backup platform more quickly, manage it more easily, and make it more robust from the design stage. Security is not just an infrastructure issue. Access control is also important. In version 13, role-based access control has been greatly enhanced. Minimum rights are applied. Recovery operations can be realized without full control rights. Zero-trust principles are realized at the actual operating level. In addition to architecture and security enhancements, a new web user interface has been introduced. You don't need to install a complex console. And an important point for Japanese customers is that this web UI fully supports Japanese. Operating efficiency and accessibility are improved at the same time. In version 13, AI is used in practice. Malware analysis detects threats in the early stage and supports widespread recovery with a guide. AI automates the analysis and makes sure that the decision is made quickly and accurately. In version 13, a new high-resolution feature has been introduced for the Beam Backup Server itself. For the first time, the ActiveStandby deployment model can be configured in Beam Software Appliance. Even if the primary server can no longer be used, the standby node can continue. This feature can now only be used in Linux-based Beam Software Appliance. This enhancement not only enhances the workload of the protected object, but also increases the resilience of the backup board itself. In version 13, Microsoft Azure's Instant Workload Recovery was introduced. You don't have to wait for a complete restore. You can run the workload as a virtual machine directly from the backup file in Azure. When a disaster occurs, you can reduce the spread time to a large extent and improve the RTO, for example. This feature provides a flexible spread option for disaster prevention, cloud management, and test requirements. In version 13, the Threat Center, which was introduced in Beam 1 as part of the Beam Data Platform, was integrated. The Threat Center provides a one-dimensional dashboard to assess security, compliance, and spread safety across the entire Beam environment. You can ensure risk, spread, readiness, and situation. That's all for the high-level overview of the Beam Data Platform version 13. In future sessions, we will shift our focus to the technical content. We will explain how to introduce the Beam Software Appliance, how to manage it, active standby configuration of the backup server, backup and restore operations, Instant Recovery of Microsoft Azure, enhanced features of Nutanix AG, and expanded RBAC features in detail.
