systems engineer with the technical services team. In today's video, we'll be discussing one of the multiple methods of upgrading a Stormagic SV-SAN virtual storage appliance, or VSA for short. Stormagic appliances run a standard Linux kernel as our own immutable Stormagic OS file system. These exist in a dual boot configuration to enable easy upgrade via small image file to potentially push over poor lossy WAN connectivity. Image files are supplied with a checksum to ensure the image is correct ahead of application. Configuration is then stored in a separate partition and backed up automatically to partner nodes for a restore mechanism. The overarching concept is a simple throwaway appliance that does a job and can be easily rebuilt if even needed. It is possible to push a new version, but not apply, or push a version and automatically restart to apply the new version. Stormagic's VSAs can have their firmware upgraded via the Stormagic vCenter plugin. This offers smart updating of the VSA firmware and staggered rebooting of the VSAs. By health checking the systems during the workflow, this ensures that the shared storage remains available. This means that this can be done during production hours. If we take a look at the vCenter that we already have deployed, under administration and client plugins, we can see we have a Stormagic plugin installed. But before we utilize this, we will need to download the image file from support.stormagic.com. You will need to be logged in in order to access the downloads page, but once logged in, click downloads. And under SV-SAN, we will click on VSA and witness appliance firmware. We'll agree to the license agreement, and we will click the download link here. This will download a zip file. I've already downloaded the file and I've extracted the image file here. Once we have that, we can go back to our vCenter into our inventory. We'll click on the VCSA layer of the vCenter, click configure, and under Stormagic plugin, click dashboard and upgrade. From here, we are in the firmware section, and this is where we can upload our new image. We'll click upload image here. We will go to our file explorer. We will grab the image, drag and drop on here to upload it. Once this is successful, we can close this window and we can see our new image file is here. We can now click upgrade VSAs. This will bring a wizard up that we will now run through. Hit next. We're specifically looking to upgrade site three cluster. We can specify which VSA we want to upgrade specifically, but we want to upgrade both of these. So we're going to select both of them. We will also need to give the cluster an upgrade name just for scheduling. Hit next. We can select between the different firmware images that we've uploaded. We're going to select the latest version, which is 6.7. We'll click next. From here, we can schedule an upgrade if we want to schedule it for a certain time of the day. I don't need to, I'm going to do this right now, but you can if you want. We'll click next and we'll click finish. And from here, we can check our scheduled tasks. We can see the test upgrade is ready to go. Once we do that, we can log into our VSAs and we can watch as they get upgraded. As we can see, this VSA is getting rebooted now. As we can see, VSA 1 on site 3 is now in version 6.7, as we can see in the top right corner of the console. If I refresh the webpage, log back into it, we can see it is in 6.7 If I check the other VSA, VSA 2, we should see this now reboot after VSA 1 is rebooted. And there it goes. And again, we can see now the VSA 2 is rebooted and is now in version as you can see in the top right corner of this console here. That concludes the dashboard upgrade.
