Ataribox - Behold The Future

Behold The Future...Atari Is Back With the New Ataribox
Atari is back, and it's coming with nostalgia. Having seen the success of Nintendo's Mini NES & Mini SNES, Atari will try to match those retro plays with the Ataribox.

Not many details about to the Ataribox have been released. but in honor of the original Atari console of 1977, the Ataribox retro mini-console will come in both red/black and wood editions. Atari promises this new console will have an SD card, HDMI, and four USB ports. The teaser photo also showed a ethernet slot, but that hasn't been confirmed by the company. The console will also enable you to play classic games from the old Atari systems as well as more modern games.

As far as release dates, game content, pricing, or more detailed specs, Atari isn't saying much. The company said: "We're not teasing you intentionally; we want to get this right, so we've opted to share things step by step as we bring this to life, and to listen closely to the Atari community feedback as we do so."

Atari's goal is to make sure it returns with a bang–and that the Ataribox does not end up with results similar to the brand name's last official console, the Atari Jaguar, which sold a few hundred thousand copies. But this will be a challenging task, Nintendo sold more than 2.3 million Mini NES consoles before it was taken off the market earlier this year.

First look: A brand new Atari product. Years in the making.
