Today we're going to go through Endpoint Management. What I'm going to do is take you through a deployment module and actually how to manage devices. First and foremost, what we're going to do here is click on Add a Customer, we're going to give that a customer name, and then we can save and continue. From here, what we're going to do is run a discovery. A discovery is made easy using a probe, and Encentral is a probe and agent-based system. You deploy a probe, and what that probe is going to do is deploy agents to all of the devices it can see. From here, I give that deployment a name, so I've called it Trey Research Probe Discovery. From here, I've given it the IP range 10.172.10.1-254. I can add in particular credentials, like my Mac OS X. I can come in and add in any SNMP credentials. So if I want to add in switches, firewalls, routers, NASs, or SANs, I can go ahead and do that. And of course, VMware. All I need to do is check that off, add in the particular account, and then I can give that a schedule. I typically set up a recurring schedule so that I can actually pull in other devices later on. Now that we've done the discovery using the probe, what we want to do is now view all of the devices that have been pulled into Encentral. I'm going to click into this assets view. What we're going to be able to do here is we're now presented with charting and graphs. We're able to come in and even go ahead and turn that off, so I can see more of the devices that have come into my Encentral. I can now come in and look at these devices. I can actually see both Windows and Linux devices. Mac will come in in just a little bit. From here, I can go into those devices. I can even come in and ask for remote access. Now in this particular view, I am presented with a ton of information. I can see all of the columns that are presented. I can turn some of those on or even off. I can actually go ahead and assemble those columns the way I want to by dragging and dropping those columns into columns that I actually want to see. What I'm able to do is now create a view that is going to be my day-to-day view for managing these particular devices. Now that we've used the assets view to assemble those columns and get the right view, what we're going to do is now link into this particular device where we can start doing the troubleshooting and the discovery that we want. What I'm going to do here is click into the monitoring. I can actually see what issues that I'm having. I can click into those. I can see those service templates that I want to potentially apply. I can click into that tools menu. I can start going through the services and stopping and starting those services. I can stop and start those processes, edit the registry. I can see what applications are installed and go ahead and uninstall those. I can see what applications are starting up at boot. I can click into the printers and see what printers are installed and go ahead and start troubleshooting them, setting their default, printing a test page. I can click into command prompt. I can even go into PowerShell mode. So I can type in PowerShell and it now will present you with a PowerShell mode. I can go into file system. I can obviously drag and drop any files that I want on that particular system or even pull files and put them online. I can go into task execution, which is really the automation piece. I can go in and run any scripts or automation policies and go ahead and do those. From here, what I'll do is now choose something like FlushDNS, click run and add that in. From here, I can go into the audit trail and see exactly what I did. As a technician, I can see what I clicked into, what I launched, what automations I've added in. At the in-central device view, you have everything you need to be able to control any of your endpoints. We make this view simple and easy to use. It has everything you need to be able to do your troubleshooting. You've got the backend tools, you've got the monitoring, and you've got the remote control. Let's hop right into remote control. I'm going to click on the remote control button and choose take control. And now that I've hopped into this device, I have full access. What the end user sees is exactly what I see. If there's any prompts, I'm able to click through those prompts. I'm able to troubleshoot this device just like I am in front of the device. From here, I'm able to go in and choose my particular commands, maybe change the view. I can hop into system shell. And again, like the tools menu, I'm able to change this into PowerShell mode if I want to. I can simply go up here and choose into PowerShell mode. I can also go into file transfers, click into file transfers, and again, I can drag and drop files from my computer to the endpoint in question, or I can pull files directly to from that endpoint to mine. I can hop into system info and now complete an audit, whereby I can see all of the hardware information that I need to make a determination if there's a particular problem with this particular device. And then remote registry. I'm able to hop into this device, do any troubleshooting right through the registry like I was in front of the device. And last but not least, we're able to do things like start an audio call, a video call. Of course, we have the support toolkit whereby I'm able to grab any of my automation and policies whereby I can actually start scripting directly on this particular device. Now that we've closed out of the remote control session, what we're going to do is check the audit trail. What this does is that completes a timestamp against my remote control session so that you know every time a remote control session has happened and when and what they have completed. Thank you for watching this video on endpoint management. My name is Jason Murphy, head nerd for Incentral. Click the link to start a trial.

TL;DR

  • N-central uses a probe-and-agent architecture to automatically discover and onboard all devices on a network, including Windows, Linux, macOS, VMware, and SNMP-enabled hardware.
  • The customizable assets view lets technicians configure columns and dashboards to build a personalized day-to-day endpoint management workflow.
  • Built-in tools cover service management, process control, registry editing, application inventory, PowerShell access, and automation policy execution from a single device view.
  • Remote control sessions include full desktop access, file transfer, system auditing, remote registry, and audio/video calling — all logged with timestamps in the audit trail.

Summary

In this hands-on product demonstration, N-able Head Nerd Jason Murphy walks through the core endpoint management capabilities of N-central, N-able's probe-and-agent-based RMM platform. The demo begins with customer onboarding — adding a new customer record and running a network discovery using a deployed probe. The probe automatically identifies and onboards devices across a defined IP range, supporting Windows, Linux, macOS, VMware, and SNMP-enabled network hardware such as switches, firewalls, routers, NAS, and SAN devices. Once devices are discovered, the assets view provides customizable dashboards with charts, graphs, and drag-and-drop column configuration, allowing technicians to build a personalized day-to-day management view. From the device detail view, technicians can access monitoring alerts, apply service templates, manage running services and processes, edit the registry, review installed applications, manage startup programs, and interact with printers. Task execution enables script and automation policy deployment directly from the interface, with a full audit trail logging every technician action. The remote control module provides full desktop access, PowerShell and system shell access, bidirectional file transfer, system hardware auditing, remote registry editing, and even audio and video call capabilities. Every remote session is timestamped in the audit trail, giving MSPs a complete record of technician activity for accountability and compliance purposes.

FAQ

What types of devices can N-central discover and manage?

N-central can discover and manage Windows, Linux, and macOS endpoints, as well as VMware environments and SNMP-enabled network devices including switches, firewalls, routers, NAS, and SAN devices — all within a defined IP range using the probe-based discovery process.

Does N-central keep a record of what technicians do during remote sessions?

Yes. N-central maintains a full audit trail that timestamps every remote control session, logs which tools were launched, which automations were run, and what actions were taken — giving MSPs a complete activity record for each technician.
