We protect human lives and we want to have uninterrupted lives. How does the NETSUS event in Claroty help, in your case, a food company, on this day to implement the issues of industrial cybersecurity? The event helps us because we see current things, we see what is happening, we see examples of other companies that are already in the same industry or in other similar industries. We can share experiences, learn from what is happening, how they are implementing tools, the problems they have, how they have solved them. And in your opinion, what is the biggest challenge you have faced in protecting your cyberphysical environments and how has Claroty helped you, a food company, in its operational continuity? One of the main challenges is to have visibility. If we don't have visibility, we don't know what we have. If we don't know what we have, we can't protect it. Claroty's XDOM tool has helped us to have visibility of what we didn't know we had. And that is the basis we are using to start protecting our industrial environments. One last question. Has it been easy to implement? How has the challenge of uniting all departments, all areas, been? You have multiple sites. It is difficult because, as you mentioned, there are many sites, many plants, many countries, different cultures. And we have to work with each of those plants in a specific way to be able to identify the critical assets and, based on that, be able to work and solve the vulnerabilities they have, lower the level of risk. An interesting part is to have awareness. To arrive with an awareness campaign, with basic training at the beginning, so they know what we are going to do, so they know the risks there are. And they themselves, the people from the plants, the operational team, they feel the curiosity and the need to be solving, to be protecting their teams. Because the teams, in the end, are not from the cybersecurity area, they are not from the IT area, they are from the operations area. Well, thank you, Gustavo, for these minutes and keep enjoying the event. Thank you.

TL;DR

  • Visibility is the critical first step in OT security — organizations cannot protect assets they don't know exist, making asset discovery foundational to any industrial cybersecurity program.
  • Claroty's xDome platform enabled Sigma to discover previously unknown OT assets across their global food and beverage manufacturing operations, providing the baseline for risk reduction efforts.
  • Successful OT security implementation in multi-site environments requires tailored approaches for each location while building awareness and engagement among operational teams who ultimately own the protected assets.

Summary

In this interview from Claroty's Nexus 2025 event, Gustavo Berber, OT Cybersecurity Manager at Sigma, discusses the challenges of protecting operational technology environments in the food and beverage industry. Berber emphasizes that visibility is the foundation of any effective OT security program, noting that organizations cannot protect assets they don't know exist. He explains how Claroty's xDome platform has enabled Sigma to discover previously unknown assets across their multi-site, multi-country operations, providing the baseline needed to begin protecting industrial environments. The conversation highlights the importance of cross-functional collaboration and awareness training to engage operational teams in cybersecurity initiatives, particularly in distributed manufacturing environments where cultural and organizational differences must be navigated. Berber notes that successful implementation requires tailoring approaches to each plant's specific context while maintaining consistent security objectives across the organization.

FAQ

What is the biggest challenge in protecting OT environments in food and beverage manufacturing?

According to Gustavo Berber, the primary challenge is achieving visibility into OT assets. Without knowing what equipment and systems exist in the environment, organizations cannot effectively protect them. Claroty's xDome platform addresses this by discovering previously unknown assets across manufacturing sites, providing the foundation for vulnerability management and risk reduction.

How does Claroty help food and beverage companies implement OT cybersecurity across multiple sites?

Claroty's xDome platform provides centralized visibility across distributed manufacturing environments, enabling organizations like Sigma to identify critical assets, assess vulnerabilities, and reduce risk consistently across multiple plants and countries. The platform consolidates multiple OT security functions into a single solution, helping to lower total cost of ownership while addressing the complexity of multi-site deployments.
