If you missed Day 1 Keynote, there's a recap for that as well. The halls are packed, and there's still a lot of excitement. Let's move past the big vision statements and focus on the key proof points. In today's landscape, there are systems that cannot change, and those that need to change quickly. Ashesh Bhadani spoke on how RHEL can solve both. So, whether it's slower moving systems that are focused on stability, or faster moving systems focused on innovation, you can choose, because you run RHEL. He also announced that Red Hat is now providing micro-sized hardened images at zero additional cost. The goal here? We want to make sure that we are as close to zero vulnerabilities as possible. Then Chris Wright walked us through AgentOps, and how Red Hat OpenShift can help keep systems safely maintained until it's time for developers to innovate. With AgentOps, every agent has that verified identity that gives you visibility and traceability to all their actions. And for the models supporting these agents, our VLM team has been working constantly behind the scenes, enabling DayZero support for every major model release. So, we've made model-as-a-service a reality. All of this makes sure your tools are as hardened for security on the desktop as they are in production. And speaking of security, the on-stage demo provided a real-time test of the security guardrails under pressure. Now, I'm still processing it, but Principal Software Engineer Sally O'Malley is on the floor to help us break it down. Sally, did I really just watch thousands of people try to jailbreak a lemonade stand with a prompt injection? Yeah, thanks, David. That is what you saw. And they didn't. I even tried to add some swear words myself. It showed in a simple way how important the platform is where you're running your agents. With our AgentOps dashboard that Morgan showed, it showed the identity and the governance and the policies that are all keeping the agents safe. You could run your own customized model, which they did in the lemonade stand as well. And the theme of that demo is that Red Hat's doing what it's always done, providing that secure platform for our customers to run any workload. And now there's an extra layer for AI workloads. I'm just going to go enjoy some more lemonade. So, back to you, David. Thanks, Sally. Open source has always been about choice. But in today's market, it's about more than choice. It's about control without complexity. Using platforms you know with first-class support. The ability to support any workload, AI, modernization, virtualization. No matter where you are, Red Hat can meet you there. And that's all for now. But honestly, we're just getting started. You can find the full recordings of the keynotes on our YouTube channel, as well as the stories of our Innovation Award winners. I'm signing off for now. I've got to go try some of that lemonade. I'll see you later.

TL;DR

  • Red Hat announced micro-sized hardened container images at zero additional cost, aiming to minimize vulnerabilities and strengthen security posture across deployments.
  • AgentOps capabilities in Red Hat OpenShift provide verified identity, visibility, and traceability for AI agents, transforming them from shadow IT into governed, auditable workloads.
  • An interactive lemonade stand demo allowed thousands of attendees to attempt prompt injection attacks, successfully demonstrating the platform's security guardrails and governance policies in real-time.

Summary

This recap of Red Hat Summit 2026's Day 2 Keynote focuses on how Red Hat addresses the dual challenge of maintaining stable, mission-critical systems while enabling rapid AI innovation. SVP and Chief Product Officer Ashesh Badani introduced the concept of "choice with control," emphasizing Red Hat's ability to support both slow-moving systems requiring stability and fast-moving systems demanding innovation through RHEL. Key announcements include the launch of micro-sized hardened container images at no additional cost, designed to minimize vulnerabilities, and the introduction of AgentOps capabilities in Red Hat OpenShift. The keynote featured an interactive lemonade stand demo where attendees attempted prompt injection attacks to test security guardrails in real-time, demonstrating how Red Hat's platform transforms AI agents from shadow IT into auditable, governed workloads with verified identities and traceability. The session underscored Red Hat's commitment to providing a secure, consistent foundation for any workload—whether AI, modernization, or virtualization—while maintaining the open source principle of choice without added complexity.

FAQ

What is Red Hat's AgentOps and how does it improve AI security?

AgentOps is Red Hat's approach to managing AI agents within OpenShift, providing each agent with a verified identity that enables visibility and traceability of all actions. This transforms AI agents from unmanaged shadow IT into auditable workloads with governance policies and security guardrails, as demonstrated in the keynote's lemonade stand demo where the platform successfully blocked prompt injection attacks.

What are Red Hat Hardened Images and what makes them significant?

Red Hat Hardened Images are micro-sized, pre-hardened container images that Red Hat now provides at no additional cost. They are designed to be as close to zero vulnerabilities as possible, reducing attack surface while maintaining functionality. This offering strengthens security posture without requiring additional investment from customers.
