and here's three things that I learned at the OpenShift Spotlight. First of all, virtualization. It's not just about migration of VMs anymore. It's about modernizing those VMs, mixing them with containers and having a platform that can handle it all. The next thing is about security and sovereignty. We heard from customers who are integrating that into the front end of their application development process and making sure that sovereignty and security are baked in from the very beginning. Finally, with Agentic and AI, we heard from customers who are really looking forward to some of the features that we're excited about as we look to make OpenShift more extensible, more scalable with the team that you have today and with the budget you have today. So those were my three things. What are your three things? Watch the spotlight on Red Hat TV and see what you think.

TL;DR

  • OpenShift now provides a unified platform for VMs and containers, moving beyond simple VM migration to enable modernization and mixed workload management.
  • Customers are embedding security and sovereignty requirements at the front end of application development rather than bolting them on later.
  • Red Hat is enhancing OpenShift's extensibility and scalability for agentic AI workloads while working within existing team sizes and budgets.

Summary

This brief recap highlights three strategic themes from Red Hat's OpenShift product spotlight session. Chuck Dubuque, who leads product marketing for OpenShift, emphasizes the platform's evolution beyond traditional VM migration to encompass a unified approach for virtualization, containers, and emerging AI workloads. The session showcased customer implementations that integrate security and sovereignty requirements from the earliest stages of application development, rather than treating them as afterthoughts. Looking forward, Red Hat positions OpenShift as increasingly extensible and scalable for agentic AI use cases, with a focus on enabling organizations to expand capabilities without requiring additional team resources or budget increases. The recap serves as a teaser for the full spotlight session available on Red Hat TV.

Key Quotes

0:10 "It's not just about migration of VMs anymore. It's about modernizing those VMs, mixing them with containers and having a platform that can handle it all."
0:44 "We look to make OpenShift more extensible, more scalable with the team that you have today and with the budget you have today."

FAQ

What does Red Hat mean by modernizing VMs rather than just migrating them?

Red Hat is positioning OpenShift as a platform that doesn't just lift-and-shift VMs from legacy infrastructure, but enables organizations to run VMs alongside containers on the same platform, allowing gradual modernization and mixed workload strategies rather than forced migration timelines.
