My first job was a concession stand at a community baseball field. I was the guy pushing the cart around, yelling to get someone's attention. How long have you been at Automox? I've been at Automox for just over five years. I joined in January in 2021 as a staff engineer. What does your team do day to day? My team manages the backend and frontend systems across the platform. The big ones are Patch Engine and Policy Scheduler, RBAC custom roles and permissions, Canopy for MDM, and the new MCP server. Give us three words that describe the people at Automox. My three words would be community, passion, and excellence. Can you tell me a story about a moment when a coworker helped you? Well, I can't name just one. My peers, the people who build this product, we help each other. The technical challenges at Automox are problems of scale. When I joined, we had about a half a million devices under management, and today it's over one and a half million. Scalability is a new challenge with every feature we deliver. What's your favorite thing about working at Automox? My favorite thing is that at the end of the day, there is a real person on the other end. Our customer is the IT administrator, but the patches install on somebody's laptop in the middle of their workday. So we're helping that person do their job better and keeping it secure. What's a moment at Automox when you thought, okay, I'm really proud of that? About three or four years ago, I was one of the main contributors to our policy results report, and it was what customers go to see to see that their policy ran on these devices, and here's what happened. And the system is still running today, and now I manage the team that owns it. So this year we made it better. It shows now every package we patched, when something fails, and exactly which one and why. So I got to build it, and then years later, I'm now managing the team that owns it.
