simplify hybrid IT, while setting the stage for future modernization through the open virtualization solution from HPE. This demo walks through how simple it is to migrate existing VMware VMs onto HPE's native hypervisor, HVM, via HPE Morpheus software. Let's begin in the HPE Morpheus dashboard. This dashboard provides customers with a comprehensive view of their entire VM estate for simple monitoring. To begin migrating VMs, navigate to the Migration page. This page contains a list of all migrations already created, including those completed, currently running, and available to be run. To start a new migration, select Add. The Create Migration Plan wizard is comprised of four simple steps. The first step is Setup. From this step, provide a name, verify the source cloud is correct, choose the target cloud to migrate the VM to, verify the resource pool the migrated VMs will have access to, verify the group that will own the migrated VMs, and select Next to proceed. The next step is to choose the VMs from the selected VMware source cloud to migrate. Users can select as many VMs as desired, given current recommendations regarding the maximum size due to storage space and available bandwidth. For this scenario, we will migrate two virtual machines. Notice selected VMs will begin to form a list at the bottom of the modal. Once all the VMs have been selected, click Next to proceed. The next step establishes resource mapping. Here you will see the current source networks and storage locations for the selected VMs. From this step, choose the destination networks and storage location. Then enter existing Linux or Windows user credentials and choose if prechecks or guest tools installation should be skipped. Once all the fields on this page are completed, select Next to proceed. The final step in the Create Migration Plan wizard is to review all the selections made and then select Complete. The new migration plan has officially been created. All selections made when configuring the migration plan are shown on this page. In the Progress tab, you can see an overview of the progress of your source VMs' migration. Notice our migration status is Pending. Migration plans need additional input to begin. Let's select the Source tab to proceed. The Source tab includes details about the source VMs ready for migration. After final reviews, the migration is ready to be run. Let's select Run to get these VMs migrated to their destination. You can see these VMs have been moved to the In Progress status. The average runtime for a VM to be migrated in HPE Morpheus is around 3-4 minutes, but this is dependent on your particular environment. Let's view the History tab while we wait. The History tab provides greater detail on current and past migration actions taken. In a short amount of time, you successfully migrated two VMs from your VMware environment over to your HPE HVM hypervisor within the HPE Morpheus VM Essentials Manager. Let's navigate to the Destination tab. The Destination tab includes details about the VMware VMs which have successfully been migrated to the HVM cluster. Select Newly Migrated HVM Virtual Machine to learn more. This page contains detailed information about the newly migrated VM, including what cloud, device type, and plan it is running after moving away from VMware. With the bulk migration feature in HPE Morpheus, users can ensure minimal downtime with simple automation, seamless integration of existing VMware VMs, and ultimately, money back in your pocket. Try starting with lower complexity workloads to see how simple the process truly is.

TL;DR

  • HPE Morpheus VM Essentials provides a four-step wizard to migrate VMware VMs to HPE's native HVM hypervisor with minimal manual effort.
  • The migration dashboard tracks all plans — pending, in-progress, and completed — with History and Destination tabs offering full audit visibility.
  • Average VM migration runtime is three to four minutes, with bulk migration support designed to minimize downtime during transitions away from VMware.

Summary

This guided product demo shows how HPE Morpheus Software VM Essentials enables IT teams to migrate existing VMware virtual machines to HPE's native HVM hypervisor with minimal complexity and downtime. The walkthrough covers the full four-step Create Migration Plan wizard — Setup, VM selection, resource mapping, and review — demonstrating how administrators can configure source and destination clouds, map networks and storage, supply guest OS credentials, and launch bulk migrations from a single unified dashboard. The demo highlights that average migration runtime is approximately three to four minutes per VM, though actual performance depends on the environment. Once complete, migrated VMs are immediately visible in the Destination tab with full detail on cloud, device type, and plan configuration. HPE positions this capability as a practical path to reducing VMware licensing costs, eliminating vendor lock-in, and simplifying hybrid IT operations — with a recommendation to begin with lower-complexity workloads to validate the process before scaling up.
