Identify the solid state drive and remove the screw. Lift the drive out of the system and flip it over. Remove the screw securing it to the other piece of hardware. To reinstall the solid state drive 2230, install the screw and flip it over. Place the drive back in the system and tighten the screw to secure it. Place the side cover back on the system and tighten the screw to secure it. Please note, the system will only power on and exit service mode if the adapter is connected. TL;DR

  • Power down the Dell Pro Micro Plus QBM1250 and disconnect all peripherals before beginning any SSD removal or installation work.
  • Remove the side cover by loosening its screws, then extract the M.2 2230 SSD by removing two retaining screws — one on each side of the drive.
  • Reinstallation is the reverse of removal; ensure all screws are tightened and the side cover is fully secured before reconnecting power.

Summary

This short official tutorial from Dell Technologies walks through the complete process of removing and reinstalling an M.2 2230 solid state drive in the Dell Pro Micro Plus QBM1250 desktop in a single-SSD configuration. The video begins with a safety reminder to consult the Owner's Manual at dell.com/support and to power down and disconnect all peripherals before beginning. The removal steps cover loosening the side cover screws, lifting the panel off, identifying the SSD, removing the retaining screw, extracting the drive, and detaching the secondary hardware screw. Reinstallation follows the reverse sequence — securing the drive with its screw, reseating it in the chassis, replacing the side cover, and tightening all fasteners. A key note at the end reminds users that the system will only power on and exit service mode when the power adapter is connected. This is a straightforward DIY customer-replaceable unit (CRU) procedure suitable for end users comfortable with basic hardware handling and proper ESD precautions.

FAQ

Do I need a technician to replace the SSD in the Dell Pro Micro Plus QBM1250?

No. Dell classifies this as a DIY Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU), meaning end users can perform the replacement themselves. Always follow the safety guidelines in the Owner's Manual and use proper ESD protection.

Why won't my QBM1250 power on after reassembly?

The system will only power on and exit service mode if the power adapter is connected. Ensure the adapter is plugged in before attempting to boot after completing the SSD replacement.
