Now, you can bring together multiple products, a router, a firewall, SD-WAN appliance, switches, APs, and all of that, from different vendors, hook them together and make them work. I mean, what's the advantage or what's the key differentiator that the SD Branch solution from Fortinet delivers? Thanks Patrick. As you mentioned, Fortinet's SD Branch solution is based on industry-leading next-generation firewall, secure SD-WAN, industry-leading as well, and FortiLink LAN. So the uniqueness about the SD Branch solution from Fortinet is seamless integration and, I would say, organic integration of these different solutions, underlying solutions and products, and providing unique values, unique benefit in terms of total cost of ownership, easy provisioning, you know, low maintenance type advantages for sure, and giving AIOps-driven reliability and, you know, high availability of also end-to-end solution. Well, a key part of Fortinet's messaging and positioning is about convergence. Where does that fit into SD Branch? So what we have heard from customers, and we understand it very well, that there is a, you know, demand for ease of operations, you know, easy maintenance, and obviously low cost at the same level, while having end-to-end secure functionality in your network. So that's where the convergence story comes from, and with our products, we provide the best solution that's possible. How about the management aspect of it? You still have different things being connected together, even with convergence. How do you manage the SD Branch? The beauty of our solution is, depending on the scale of your network, scale of your SD Branch deployment, you can have FortiGate switches and APs, extenders, as we just discussed. But as you move beyond, it's scalable. You can scale up, scale down. For example, for large-scale system, you can introduce FortiManager into the mix for managing, you know, geographically distributed solution based on the same underlying component. All right. Well, Sandeep, thank you very much for that information. Brought to you live from the Tech Expo at Fortinet Accelerate 25. If you missed out, watch for Accelerate InFocus, coming to your region later this quarter.

TL;DR

  • Fortinet's SD-Branch converges next-generation firewall, secure SD-WAN, and FortiLink LAN into a single integrated solution rather than connecting separate vendor products.
  • The solution targets reduced total cost of ownership, simplified provisioning, and lower maintenance overhead for branch networking deployments.
  • AIOps-driven capabilities provide reliability and high availability across the end-to-end branch infrastructure.
  • Management scales from FortiGate-based control for smaller deployments to FortiManager for large, geographically distributed environments.

Summary

This interview from Fortinet Accelerate 2025 features Sandip Borle, VP of Product Management, explaining how Fortinet's Secure SD-Branch solution addresses the complexity of managing multiple networking and security components at branch locations. The solution converges Fortinet's next-generation firewall, secure SD-WAN, and FortiLink LAN capabilities into a unified platform. Borle emphasizes that the key differentiator is the organic integration of these components rather than simply connecting disparate products from multiple vendors. The conversation covers three main value propositions: reduced total cost of ownership, simplified provisioning and maintenance, and AIOps-driven reliability for high availability. On the management side, Borle highlights the solution's scalability—smaller deployments can be managed directly through FortiGate with connected switches, APs, and extenders, while larger geographically distributed environments can incorporate FortiManager for centralized oversight. The underlying message centers on Fortinet's convergence strategy, responding to customer demand for simplified operations without sacrificing end-to-end security functionality.

FAQ

What components make up Fortinet's Secure SD-Branch solution?

The solution integrates Fortinet's next-generation firewall, secure SD-WAN, and FortiLink LAN capabilities, along with switches, access points, and extenders—all managed through a unified platform rather than separate vendor products.

How does management scale for larger SD-Branch deployments?

Smaller deployments can be managed directly through FortiGate with connected switches and APs, while larger or geographically distributed environments can add FortiManager for centralized management of the same underlying components.
