I'm a VP from this technology solution in MSIG Asia. MSIG Asia is a leading general insurer. As part of the global MS&AD Japan group, we provide a wide range of insurance products and services in commercial line and personal line. The bigger challenge before we migrate to Nutanix is we will need to maintain the traditional three-tier legacy system, which is very complex as well as difficult to manage. We're already moving from VNWare to Nutanix. So my team just completed the process in early April. So we have managed to migrate all our VNWare workload to Nutanix today. They have completed everything without any service disruption to our business. So I think this is a great achievement. I want to thank the Nutanix team for helping us on this journey. The single good benefit after migrating to HV Nutanix is it provides us the simplest management, as well as great customer service, and the entire ecosystem and the partnership with the service provider. This gives us peace of mind. My team can have more time to do more meaningful projects. We do see the performance increase, especially in the database performance, as well as the backup performance as well. We want to move away from the traditional replication strategy, which is you have primary and secondary sites, then you deploy to a cluster to do the replication. So instead of that, we actually backup our virtual machine to a public cloud. So when we want to perform the disaster recovery test, it's just a few clicks away, then we are able to build the workload. We tested this in the last year, everything went well. So now this is in our pipeline. My advice to the organization still thinking whether to fully migrate to HV Nutanix is to act as soon as possible. This will definitely help them in terms of managing their costs. So not to worry about the technology, because Nutanix HV actually is one of the most stable systems I have worked with, as well as the Nutanix team, we'll be always there to provide you the good customer service.

TL;DR

  • MSIG Asia migrated approximately 2,000 VMware VMs to Nutanix AHV in early April with zero service disruption, a milestone the VP of Technology Solutions called a great achievement.
  • The migration avoided a 4x hypervisor license cost increase and eliminated the complexity of managing a traditional three-tier legacy infrastructure.
  • Post-migration performance gains were observed in database and backup workloads, and disaster recovery testing was simplified to just a few clicks via public cloud backup.

Summary

In this customer testimonial, Kiyu Wei, VP of Technology Solutions at MSIG Asia, describes the company's successful migration from VMware to the Nutanix Cloud Platform and AHV hypervisor. MSIG Asia, a leading general insurer operating under the global MS&AD Japan group, faced mounting complexity managing a traditional three-tier legacy infrastructure and was confronting a significant hypervisor license cost increase — reportedly a 4x hike at renewal. By completing a full migration of approximately 2,000 virtual machines to Nutanix AHV with zero service disruption, the IT team eliminated that cost exposure while dramatically simplifying day-to-day operations through a unified management interface. Post-migration, the team observed measurable performance improvements in both database and backup workloads. Disaster recovery testing, previously a multi-step replication exercise across primary and secondary sites, has been reduced to a few clicks by backing virtual machines directly to public cloud. Wei closes with a direct recommendation to peers still evaluating the move: act quickly, trust the technology, and expect strong vendor support throughout the process.
