with different rules, different disciplines, different researchers, different teams, different funding until 1831 when Michael Faraday discovered and revealed the unified field that actually connected the two of them. Faraday showed that electricity and magnetism were just different expressions of the same unifying force, electromagnetism. There was always one field, always had been, and the entire modern world today is possible because of that unification. Electric motors, generators, transformers, MRI machines, Wi-Fi, radio signals, the fact that your cell phones actually work, solar power, electric vehicles, everything is possible because of electromagnetism. And we feel we are at that kind of a moment right now. We will always innovate discreetly on data, AI, security, and resilience, but treating these two, data security and resilience, as separate disciplines with separate teams, separate vendors, separate budgets, really stops being an option in the agentic era. They're simply two expressions of the same underlying force, which is the ability to trust data and the systems acting on it.

TL;DR

  • Veeam CEO Anand Eswaran argues that data security and data resilience are not separate disciplines but two expressions of the same underlying force: the ability to trust data and the systems acting on it.
  • He draws a direct parallel to Michael Faraday's 1831 unification of electricity and magnetism, framing Veeam's convergence thesis as a similarly historic inflection point for the industry.
  • Eswaran explicitly states that maintaining separate teams, vendors, and budgets for security and resilience 'stops being an option in the agentic era,' signaling a direct challenge to point-solution vendors.

Summary

In this keynote clip from VeeamON London, Veeam CEO Anand Eswaran uses the historical unification of electricity and magnetism as a powerful analogy to reframe how enterprises should think about data security and data resilience. Just as Michael Faraday's 1831 discovery revealed that electricity and magnetism were always expressions of a single underlying force — electromagnetism — Eswaran argues that data security and data resilience are similarly unified at their core. Treating them as separate disciplines with separate teams, separate vendors, and separate budgets, he contends, is no longer viable in the agentic AI era. The core message is that Veeam positions itself as the company uniquely capable of delivering on this convergence, framing its mission as enabling organizations to trust both their data and the AI systems acting on it. The analogy is deliberately ambitious, invoking world-changing technological unification to signal that Veeam sees this moment as a fundamental industry inflection point — not an incremental product update.

FAQ

What does Veeam mean by the 'agentic era'?

Eswaran uses 'agentic era' to refer to the emerging period in which AI agents autonomously act on enterprise data. In this context, he argues that trusting both the data and the AI systems operating on it requires security and resilience to be treated as a unified capability rather than separate functions.
