The FBI warns that the Hive ransomware uses phishing emails with malicious attachments to gain access to business networks and remote desktop protocol to move laterally. However, none of the eight recommended mitigations provided by the FBI suggest fighting against phishing emails. This lack of emphasis on combating phishing is a common problem despite its role in the majority of ransomware attacks. It may be that in some cases we are teaching each other the wrong things when it comes to cybersecurity.
