management of multi-cloud and hybrid IT while empowering organizations with complete application lifecycle management. This demo walks through how to set up automation tasks and workflows to ensure your system is running the way you need, anytime. One important aspect of efficient hybrid IT is setting up and deploying automation tasks and workflows. HPE Morpheus harnesses scripts you already have and tools you already integrate with to fully automate cloud application lifecycles. To begin automating workflows, navigate to the Automation section. The Automation section is dedicated to tasks and workflows. The Tasks tab displays a list of all the tasks running in your environment. Tasks are the individual pieces of code, or building blocks, that perform a function or series of functions. HPE Morpheus supports almost any task language you can imagine. To create a new automation task, select the Add button at the top of the table. The new task wizard allows admins to customize and configure automation tasks. Select the arrow along the side of the wizard to expand the script variables. Script variables are dynamic placeholders used to inject data into automation scripts, configurations, or workflows at runtime. Instead of hard-coding values like IP addresses, usernames, or environment names, you use variables to make your automation reusable across different clouds, groups, and instances. To close the script variable, select the arrow again. Now let's begin configuring the new task. Add a name for the new task, then choose the type of task you'd like to create. It is important to note that you can only choose from the task types your environment has available. For this scenario, we will select a Shell script. Next, admins have the option to choose where to source the code. Task configuration code may be entered in a number of ways depending on the task type. If you choose a repository source, HPE Morpheus pulls code directly from a repository, such as GitHub, directly integrating your automations with your version control. If you choose local, you can paste your code right in. Now, once everything is configured on this page, select Save Changes. Newly added tasks will be visible from the table on this page. In HPE Morpheus, a group of tasks is called Workflow. To configure an automation workflow, navigate to the Workflows tab. Underneath the Tasks tab, the Workflows tab shows a list of all the workflows visible to you configured in the environment. There are two types of workflows. Provisioning workflows are tied to the lifecycle stages of a virtual machine or container. You assign tasks to specific phases, and HPE Morpheus executes them automatically when the resource reaches that stage. Operational workflows are on-demand sets of tasks that run sequentially. They do not have lifecycle phases and are typically used for Day 2 operations. Let's create a new provisioning workflow by selecting the Add button at the top of the table. This wizard allows admins to customize and configure automation workflows. First, provide a name for the new workflow. Then, you must set up tasks to run during appropriate phases of the provisioning process, which can be added in the Tasks dropdowns. Multiple tasks can be added to the same execution phase, and their order can be easily changed. All newly added workflows, provisioning and operational, will be visible from the table on this page. Another important automation feature of HPE Morpheus, available to all tenants, is Execute Scheduling. Execute Scheduling creates time schedules for jobs, including tasks, workflows, and backup jobs. Let's see how easy it is to create a new execution schedule. The first step is to provide a name for the schedule. Using names that reference the time interval can be helpful. Next, the Visibility section gives master tenants the option to share the schedule with subtenants by setting the visibility to Public. For now, we will stay Private. Now verify your time zone is correct, set the schedule, and select Save. Here you can see a list of all the execution schedules created in this environment. Another way to see all your execution schedules is by navigating to the Execution page. From this page, you can see all your scheduled tasks in the timeline bar at the top of the Task tab, with details of what each task is in the menu below. Never worry if you'll miss running a task again with visibility like this. HPE Morpheus software is a robust tool that can help you scale and govern your automation efforts. Through setting up tasks and workflows your way, you can get time back for your teams without missing a beat.
