we're at Empower in Berlin. What originally brought us to using Cove was the fact that it's really simple to deploy. I've worked in lots of environments over my years and I've pretty much used every backup product out there. So it was important that when I started MetaEagle we wanted something that we could use, easily deploy, automate and monitor which is why we ended up picking Cove to partner with. The advantages that we've got from utilising Cove into our product set is that we can automate the deployment. We've got a very slick and neat process in terms of maintaining those backups, making sure they're working as they should be and reacting to things when we need to. So that gives us confidence with Cove that if we need to do a disaster recovery or restore from backup that we're able to do so. Cove has helped us to scale the business simply because by automating it saves up engineer time. So it means that the guys and girls can focus on other things, other tasks within the business and that we're not bogged down with deploying and installs and everything else. We've been using Cove since we started the business. So as MetaEagle we incorporated in 2017 and we've been using Cove ever since then. No regrets. No regrets, that's why however many years later we're still going strong. Eight years. Yeah, a long time. So MSPs that don't use Cove could be missing out on automation, deployment, integration to their existing sets such as their PSAs, their remote monitoring and management and just an ease of life. But they're not then utilising to do other things. We've got to be conscious as a proactive MSP about rising cyber attacks and how we can utilise Cove in order to overcome those. So as standard now everyone's going to expect a backup product to be able to cover you across multiple workstations or servers or operating systems but then also to have proactive monitored backups, recovery that's continuous and fortified copies is also a consideration as well as that last line of defence. We find that Cove enables to offer all of that to our customers. How do I feel about Cove as a product? Simply put like I'm on a surfboard in swim shorts living the high life in Hawaii. It's super easy to deploy, it's easy to use, it works, it's reliable, there's not really much else that we could ask from a backup product. So deploying Insight to us was fundamental to the business in that when we first started it was quite clear that we had to be able to monitor and see everything and what Insight has allowed us to do is have a standardised way of deploying out that remote management capability to all of our customer base. It also forms the basis of not only support but also the automation as well as that agent allows us to deploy out other enabled products and other software based products. In terms of how Insight combines user capability and power as the saying goes with great power comes great responsibility. So it's a nice contrast of being able to utilise the power of the tool but in a friendly way that is quite intuitive for engineers like me to learn. So in terms of our partnership with Enable, so MetaEagle when we first started the business we partnered with Enable and it's been a partnership that's going from strength to strength. We've been working together now for eight years since I founded the business and the reason why is yes the technology stack and all of the options available to us then also community events like this at Enpower in Berlin where we can bring all the peers together, we can exchange ideas, great access into the head nerds and also the capabilities of the exec team which means every year we go strength to strength in the partnership between MetaEagle and Enable. Right so yeah this isn't our first Empower, the first one we went to was in Vegas we took a lot away from it. Yeah it was a great time in terms of networking and socialising but it allowed us to have those important conversations about what is happening in the cyber security space, what's happening in the IT support space. A great way of finding out about product roadmaps and linking in with the decision makers within Enable and that's why we've come back year after year. So we've done Prague in 23, unfortunately 24 I was unavailable for a wedding but 25 we're back here in Berlin and absolutely enjoying it. Right okay so some of the highlights that we've had here at Empower is the product roadmaps, see what's going on over the coming landscape of the next 12 months or so but also I've had the fortunate position of doing some press interviews, sitting down with the CTO Mike Adler picking his brains about what's up and coming and meeting important players within the Enable team that can hopefully shape some of those product roadmaps to how we can utilise them at MetaEagle in our business. So if you're an Enable partner and you've not come to Empower before you might ask the question of why should you and simply put there's a lot of opportunity that you're missing out. As John said this morning there's 500 experts in the room that are all willing to work with you and I think that in the IT industry now as managed service providers everyone is about that collaborative work rather than competition and why wouldn't you want to capitalise on that.

TL;DR

  • Lee Robinson of Meta Eagle has used Cove Data Protection since founding his MSP in 2017, calling it the easiest backup product he has encountered across a long career.
  • Cove's automation capabilities have directly scaled Meta Eagle's business by reducing engineer time spent on manual backup deployment and monitoring tasks.
  • Robinson positions Cove as a critical last line of defence against cyber attacks, highlighting proactive monitoring, continuous recovery, and fortified copies as essential MSP offerings.
  • The N-able Empower partner event is cited as a key business asset, providing access to product roadmaps, peer collaboration, and direct engagement with N-able's CTO and executive team.

Summary

In this short customer interview filmed at N-able's Empower event in Berlin, Lee Robinson — Co-founder and Director of Meta Eagle, a UK-based MSP — shares why his company has relied exclusively on N-able's Cove Data Protection since founding the business in 2017. Having worked across numerous backup products throughout his career, Robinson chose Cove for its ease of deployment, automation capabilities, and reliable monitoring. He explains that automating backup workflows has freed up engineer time, allowing his team to focus on higher-value tasks rather than manual installs and maintenance. Robinson also highlights Cove's role as a last line of defence against rising cyber threats, citing proactive monitoring, continuous recovery, and fortified copies as features that meet modern MSP customer expectations. Beyond Cove, he discusses N-able's Insight remote management tool and how it underpins Meta Eagle's standardised deployment process across their entire customer base. The interview closes with Robinson's enthusiasm for the Empower partner community, noting that access to product roadmaps, peer networking, and direct conversations with N-able's executive and technical leadership — including CTO Mike Adler — are key reasons Meta Eagle continues to attend year after year.

FAQ

Why did Meta Eagle choose Cove over other backup products?

Lee Robinson explains that after using virtually every backup product available throughout his career, he chose Cove when founding Meta Eagle because of its ease of deployment, automation capabilities, and straightforward monitoring — all critical for running an efficient MSP operation.

How has Cove helped Meta Eagle scale its business?

By automating backup deployment and monitoring, Cove has freed up engineer time that would otherwise be spent on manual installs and maintenance, allowing Meta Eagle's team to focus on higher-value tasks and grow the business without proportionally increasing headcount.
