This is going to have a lot of the basic details of what's next. Most of you have been looking into this for over a year. Some of you may still be going through and figuring out now that you're down to the dregs of what's left, what do you need to do to continue supporting or how do you mitigate any risks if you do have a few one-off systems that need to be maintained? One thing different about this, ESU versus previous ones is Microsoft is really doing it for quantity one and up. They do have some ways for small businesses or even large businesses that are just doing a very small quantity to be able to license. I've talked to a few organizations that are running 10 or less Windows 10 devices, but they have a really important critical system that requires it for a period of time. They need at least another year, if not a little bit more to get off of that. Many of our customers, like yourselves, are actively looking at how to extend that life for a short period of time. The first article here though just explains the end of life, explains the path forward, got Windows 11. Install upgrading your current PC to Windows 11, if it supports that from a hardware perspective, getting a new PC that's built for more Windows 11 specs or doing the extended support. This has some FAQ type responses for a lot of the common questions that are coming up. If you have purchased Microsoft Extended Support and you're using an Avanti product, you can subscribe to our extended support. If you haven't already started that conversation, you can reach out to your rep and do that. We do have a charge for the operational costs that we incur by maintaining that support going forward. We have to get ESU licensing ourselves. We have to keep up maintaining environments and testing and doing other things for that. We do a flat subscription fee. It doesn't matter if you've got two devices or 20,000 devices that are going to need that ESU content. We scale that price equitably to the quantity of Windows 10 devices you're going to be maintaining, but it's a much smaller cost than what Microsoft is charging you per device. We just need that for our operational efforts. That's why there is an additional cost there for our content services. If you're on either Avanti Neurons for Patch Management, Patch for Endpoint Manager, or Security Controls, those are the three products that we are supporting that extended support program for. The next.

TL;DR

  • Windows 10 reaches end of support with three migration options: upgrade existing hardware to Windows 11, purchase new Windows 11 devices, or enroll in Microsoft's Extended Security Updates program.
  • Microsoft's ESU program now supports any quantity of devices, enabling even small deployments of 10 or fewer critical systems to receive extended support for organizations needing additional migration time.
  • Ivanti offers ESU content subscription for customers using Neurons for Patch Management, Patch for Endpoint Manager, or Security Controls, with flat-rate pricing scaled to device count rather than per-device Microsoft ESU costs.

Summary

This clip addresses the approaching Windows 10 end of support deadline and the options available to organizations still managing legacy systems. The presenter outlines three primary migration paths: upgrading existing hardware to Windows 11 where compatible, purchasing new Windows 11-ready devices, or enrolling in Microsoft's Extended Security Updates (ESU) program for systems that cannot be immediately migrated. Unlike previous ESU programs, Microsoft is offering licensing for any quantity of devices, making it accessible even for organizations with just a handful of critical Windows 10 systems. For Ivanti customers using Neurons for Patch Management, Patch for Endpoint Manager, or Security Controls, the company offers ESU content subscription services to support organizations maintaining Windows 10 devices beyond the end-of-support date. Ivanti charges a flat subscription fee scaled to device count to cover operational costs including ESU licensing, testing environments, and ongoing content maintenance.

FAQ

What are my options if I can't migrate all Windows 10 systems before end of support?

You have three primary options: upgrade compatible existing hardware to Windows 11, purchase new Windows 11-ready devices, or enroll remaining systems in Microsoft's Extended Security Updates (ESU) program to receive security patches beyond the end-of-support date while you complete migration.

How does Ivanti's ESU subscription pricing work compared to Microsoft's per-device model?

Ivanti charges a flat subscription fee scaled to the total quantity of Windows 10 devices you're maintaining, rather than Microsoft's per-device ESU licensing cost. This covers Ivanti's operational costs including ESU licensing, testing environments, and ongoing content maintenance for supported patch management products.
